Vascular dementia is a common form of dementia caused by an insufficient supply of oxygen to brain cells and neuroinflammatory phenomena. Its onset may be monogenic or be related to broader conditions, in which vascular dementia manifests itself as a possible complication.
For a person suffering from dementia or with affected family members, the genetic test can be useful to facilitate diagnosis, as well as differential diagnosis, in order to trace the cause of the symptoms and/or to establish one's personal risk.
